...I don't think it's pointless to consider the difficulties ahead of them. To not do so would be callous of us, even if we can't do anything to help or hinder them from here.

I think considering how difficult it is for them is already a baseline, is more what I mean. Ruminating overmuch on it won't let us help them any more than what we've been trying.

...It depends. Some of us are less... flexible, I suppose, than mortals - less adaptable. We are what we are. Nothing more, nothing less. So, sometimes, if we break, there is no coming back from it, both in a literal and figurative sense.
