I think considering how difficult it is for them is already a baseline, is more what I mean. Ruminating overmuch on it won't let us help them any more than what we've been trying.

Don't want to overthink ourselves into becoming defeatist.

With everyone we have here, do you really think that possible? Too many of them hold onto hope as a lifeline, and use it to lift as many others up as they can. [ he smiles. ] There’s a tough road ahead for all of us, but I don’t think “defeat” is something they’ll allow, in any sense of the word.

I would have believed that better... wanted to believe that better, but you've seen how Karlach and Robin have crumbled. Others like you and Rondo, deceased.

[ It's a bit rough and bleak when you watch the people who touted brightness and hope to begin with end up becoming killers and corpses. ]

But then again, they are still trekking on. That makes them stronger than most I've known.

Everyone has a breaking point of their own. But there's always the possibility to pick up the pieces and keep going. Mortals are resilient that way.

And what about for immortals?

[naginota]

...It depends. Some of us are less... flexible, I suppose, than mortals - less adaptable. We are what we are. Nothing more, nothing less. So, sometimes, if we break, there is no coming back from it, both in a literal and figurative sense.

If mortals can manage to have a change of heart in a matter of years, months, even days, then why not you?

I'm sure the people here would like to believe they've had some manner of impact on you.

[ Like making Iwatooshi learn what sex is I guess. ]

I didn't say that we couldn't change at all, Daa-dono. Just that it's harder, after so many years of being the same.

You've all taught me many things.

...And sometimes, after it all... even if you've changed, you can always go back to the same-old.
